Dr San San Xu
Dr San San Xu is a Consultant Neurologist at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery, who specialises in movement disorders, with a particular focus on functional neurosurgery including deep brain stimulation (DBS) and MR guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS).
Dr Xu graduated from medicine from the University of Melbourne in 2010 and completed her neurology training at the Alfred and Austin Hospitals in Melbourne. She undertook a fellowship in movement disorders in 2017. She was accepted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Neurology) and appointed a consultant neurologist in movement disorders in 2018 at the Austin Hospital.
Dr Xu obtained a Doctor in Philosophy (PhD) at the University of Melbourne in 2021, exploring electrophysiological biomarkers in DBS for Parkinson’s disease. She continued post-doctoral work on the Unit of Functional Neurosurgery at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery from 2021 to 2024. She was appointed a consultant neurologist on the unit in 2025.
She is a member of the Clinical Advisory and Governance Group for the Queen Square Imaging Centre's MR-Guided Focused Ultrasound service.
