Which lifestyle factors place me at higher risk of a stroke?
What we’re really looking for are the key risk factors that put you at increased risk of a clot so that we can target them. It’s things like high cholesterol so we would do a test to check what your cholesterol levels are. We would be checking for diabetes to see what your sugars are. We’d be checking your blood pressure which is one of the biggest risk factors and we’d be targeting the top number of less than 130 and the bottom number of less than 80. Those will be the biggest risk factors so when you come to the clinic you would have your blood pressure checked and blood tests done to look for any potential risks like diabetes and high cholesterol. We’ll also have a look at other conditions like whether you have carotid narrowing and whether you may be a candidate for any more treatment for that.
