What are the causes of epilepsy?
Epilepsy at its core is a tendency for an individual or an individual’s brain to have recurrent seizures. The causes can be structural, such as damage to the brain, inflammation by stroke or a brain injury from a trauma. There may also be a genetic propensity where the the brain itself is a little less stable because of the way neuro chemicals are being produced.
For a reasonable proportion of patients, we may never really get to understand why they have epilepsy and this tendency to seizure.
