Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a condition that affects the brain and causes repeated seizures.
SYMPTOMS
The primary symptoms of epilepsy are repeated seizures. There are many different types of seizure, depending on the area of the brain affected.
CAUSES
In just over 50% of epilepsy cases, a cause cannot be found. However, if the cause of epilepsy is known, this is usually a disorder affecting the brain such as brain tumours, head injury, and strokes.
TREATMENTS
Anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs) are usually the first choice of treatment for epilepsy. About 70% of people with epilepsy are able to control their seizures with AEDs.
