Headaches/Migraines

There are many different types of headaches, including migraines, each with different causes and symptoms. Migraines are usually present as a more intense form of headache, which can be categorised into migraines with aura, without aura and aura without headache.

SYMPTOMS

Severe throbbing is usually felt in only one side of the head, with additional symptoms of headaches/migraines including nausea and vomiting, light and sound sensitivity, flashing lights in the vision, dizziness, difficulty speaking, and tingling/numb sensations in one arm

CAUSES

Causes of headaches can vary, including: excess consumption of alcohol (dehydration), head injury, cold/ flu, temporomandibular disorders, sinusitis, carbon monoxide poisoning, and sleep apnoea.

Causes of migraines also vary, from emotional triggers to physical, dietary or environmental triggers. Migraines can also be caused by some medications.

TREATMENTS

There is no cure for headaches or migraines; however, they can be treated using painkillers such as paracetamol, aspirin and ibuprofen to help reduce the symptoms.
